Linux as a PDF machine

clipped from www.linux.com
Turn your Linux box into a PDF-making machine

What you'll need is a Linux box with the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) and the CUPS-PDF driver. I set this up on Ubuntu Feisty, but it should work on any Linux distro with CUPS and the CUPS-PDF driver.

sudo apt-get install cups-pdf

Sharing with Windows

# Allow remote access
Port 631
Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock
Browsing On
BrowseOrder allow,deny
BrowseAllow @LOCAL
BrowseAddress @LOCAL
DefaultAuthType Basic

Restart CUPS again and you should be golden.

personaliser ubuntu

clipped from www.extremetech.com
this chapter from the ExtremeTech book Hacking Ubuntu: Serious Hacks Mods and Customizations you'll learn how to set up the operating system to your taste with things like changing the startup music, the background, fonts, icons, and colors, and navigating the Nautilus file manager—on both PCs and Macs.

Logging in for the First Time
When you first log into Ubuntu, a few things will get your attention, like
the login music. It's this increasing tone with twinkles that sound like an
orchestra tuning up. And the desktop color scheme: brown. Before you can
call the system usable, you will need to change these and other things.

    Debian samba

    clipped from www.debianadmin.com

File Server Configuration in Debian Using Samba

Samba is a suite of Unix applications that speak the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol. Many operating systems, including Windows and OS/2, use SMB to perform client-server networking. By supporting this protocol, Samba allows Unix servers to get in on the action, communicating with the same networking protocol as Microsoft Windows products.

    OOo Password cracker

    Openoffice.org password cracker
    clipped from www.linux.com

What do you do if you forget the password to your OpenOffice.org files? The simplest solution is to download
OOo Password Cracker, a macro for opening protected documents in any OpenOffice.org application. Using a brute force dictionary attack, OOo Password Cracker provides a slow but reliable method of document recovery. However, the macro requires some preparation if you want to use it effectively.
